Written and directed by Don McKellar, this comedy-drama looks at the world in the face of impending doom, following a group of people as they spend their last six hours on earth before it all comes to an end. Patrick (McKellar) endures a faux Christmas celebration with his family, while trying to mourn the recent death of his wife, while Sandra (Sandra Oh) tries to get across town to commit suicide with her husband, a gas company employee Duncan (David Cronenberg). Meanwhile, Craig (Callum Keith Rennie) hopes to achieve sexual satisfaction with several women on his list.

Although ''Last Night'' eschews sentimentality, the situation is so extreme that there is ultimately no avoiding it. But the intense performances of Ms. Oh, whose face and body seem pinched with an acute, aching anxiety, and of Mr. McKellar, who almost visibly shrinks into the cocoon of Patrick's despair, keep the suds from billowing into more than a few discreet bubbles.
Stephen Holden, The New York Times -
A quirky film with its share of strange delights.
Film 4 -
...a witty, perceptive movie, exceptionally well structured by writer/director McKellar, with a keen feeling for detail, a nice line in the unexpected and a strong sense of the wider context. Absorbing, insightful and suspenseful from start to finish.
