Drowning By Numbers is an ironic black comedy of love and death that takes place in a lyrically beautiful English landscape of woods, fields, estuaries and beaches in late summer and early autumn. There are five main protagonists - three women with the same name, a coroner who is love with all of them, and the coroners son who acts as a messenger and go-between. The three women - all of whom have the same name - are independently minded and have a great sense of mutual camaraderie. They are all dissatisfied with their marriages, and in the end all three drown their husbands, looking to the coroner to free them of their responsibility for murder.

The acting is uniformly excellent.
Variety -
Well it's Peter Greenaway innit. Beautiful, but a little confusing.
Empire Magazine -
Elegantly scored and luminously shot, it's a modernist black comedy filled with arcane, archaic and apocryphal lore, and hugely enjoyable.
