Chronicle Of A Disappearance represents a highly personal journey back to the home country of Israel for ex-patriot Palestinian filmmaker Elia Suleiman. Composed of two parts, the film first documents the lives of the Arab community in Nazereth, before moving on to take a more political view of the city and its people. This is where Suleiman takes a more active role in the feature. After originally making the trip home on a quest to find inspiration, he is confronted with a multitude of unnerving images of the Arab people trapped in a cultural identity crisis, and so it becomes his mission to document this.

At its best, this structure offers both formal and political interest, since the film's segments are described respectively as personal and political diaries.
